DITIDAHT PADDLE DAYS
June 16th, 2015
On June 10th, Pacheedaht Youth workers took the children and some parents to the Truth and Reconciliation Paddle Days in Ditidaht. This was a day event full of canoe racing for the children and some adults. The students also participated in some fun filled and very interesting cultural workshops such as: Canoe crats, storytelling, cedar weaving and a traditional game of lahal. The community hosted a wonderful seafood dinner and some of the children participated in some cultural dancing and then went to have some fun at a modern dance before turning in for the night. Day 2 was an early rise and our children were at the beach for a morning prayer and on the water by 8am. Lets give them all a hand for their participation and their courage to be out in the cold water so early in the morning, for some it was their first time. Way to go:
Taryn-Aja Jones Oke
and Amanda for racing in the Adult race.
The children were so happy to participate and all did so well, making new friends and memories. Look forward to next years “Paddle Days”
